Alex Carpani Biography


Alex Carpani, Italian composer, was born in 1970 in Montreux (Switzerland) to an Italian father and French mother. At the age of 6 years showed a particular inclination for music, starting playing electronic organ and taking his first lessons in music theory and music theory before going on to study piano and composition. Equipped with an ear for music called out of the ordinary from his early music teachers, was formed largely by himself, rejecting the prospect as a boy to enter the conservatory and to follow an academic education.

His musical education has seen more than a degree in DAMS - Music University of Bologna with a thesis on the music of Nino Rota in the films of Federico Fellini (1 st prize winner of the Fellini Foundation in 1997 ), a specialist at the CET, the School of Mogul, in composition and arrangement of music from the movie (after winning a scholarship from the European Union), a specialist at the Foundation Stage of Arts in Bologna Sound Engineering and participation in various national and international competitions composition, in which he placed at the top: Riccione To Rock (1990), Clio Genius (1990), Festival of unknown Ariccia (1991) , Free Music (1994) among others.
From these formative experiences acquired the tools and knowledge necessary to become an independent artist, able to self-produce their music through the knowledge of electronic music, recording techniques, information technology, web and digital.

eclectic composer, has a repertoire that ranges from progressive rock to classical, from electronic music to film music and theater, from electro-jazz music combined with poetry. Basic
was the meeting with Keith Emerson age 7, when the famous English musician enrolled his son Aaron in the college run by the parents of Alex in Switzerland. Since then, the progressive music and love for keyboards have always been part of his musical life, influencing the tastes, style, and the subsequent experiences.
In 1990, at age 20 he founded, together with another composer, keyboardist, Paul Bonori, the instrumental duo Gemini, in fact starting to settle in an intense and continuous. The two musicians recorded two concept albums: Polychrome and States of Mind From A Surrealist Existence that combine new age, reminiscence risnacimentali (especially in the melodies and harmonies in some), and influences of progressive music. The duo also holds several concerts that mix music, movies, dance and theatrical productions. The Gemini project caught the attention of many fans and some new age record: the song Ballad Gentle, from their second album, is included in an album containing a compilation and distributed nationally. Despite everything, however, the duo disbanded in 1992 for the overlap of interests and solo projects, just before the recording of the 3rd album, which will remain unfinished, except for some songs - rearranged by Alex Carpani - will be part of the concept album Hypothesis of 1993, his first solo work.

The meeting with the albums in 1994, then when Alex was selected to enter the CET and participate in the film music course taught by Stelvio Cipriani, has spurred him to venture into new genres of music and write music symphonic and orchestral, consolidating the practice of musical composition combined with the visual.
Since 2000 his focus was mainly on the following genres: Progressive Rock
: this genre has always influenced and inspired, perhaps for that magical meeting with Keith Emerson had a kid ... In 2005 he signed a contract with the independent label American CypherArts, which released its debut album prog Waterline (2007).
Electronic Music: between 2001 and 2003 he composed several electronic albums under the pseudonym al.en.ca. (dall'acropnimo Alex Enrico Carpani), taking also into multimedia concert with computer animations and slides. E 'was reviewed by the electronic music magazine 21st Century Music in 2004.
music for theater and multimedia he composed the original music scene of the play multimedia The Return, written by Filippo Finardi and represented the Oratorio San Filippo Blacks in Bologna in 2004, the original soundtrack of the short and the subsequent theatrical multimedia Seeking an innocent country directed by Sandra Cavallini and represented at the Sports Palace of the Pillar in Bologna, the soundtrack of a short film called Steps, directed by Dario Marzola, the original music of DVD Promotional CMAS (international organization for sports divers), produced by documentary filmmaker Francesca Fabbri and distributed internationally, and finally, the original soundtrack of the spot for the shelter Caritas Piacenza, directed by Giorgia Scalia with the extraordinary participation of Gianni Schicchi, one of the favorite actors from Marco Bellocchio.
Music and poetry: in 2002 he composed a trilogy of albums inspired by poems by Edoardo Sanguineti, one of the greatest living Italian poets: Eye of the Needle , Chaldean Flows and Prospects missing. These were followed by two albums inspired by the poems of Philip Finardi, poet and writer Bolognese A dog sitting at the feet of himself (2003) and Where is that memory (2004). In all the album's music was composed starting from the recorded voice of the poet reading his own poems. In this work, the music is no mere musical accompaniment to the verses recited by the narrator, but as part of a multi-language, in which music have equal dignity and poetry and the music flows from the "musicality" of the verses.

Carpani Alex has worked with David Jackson (Van der Graaf Generator), Aldo Tagliapietra (Le Orme), Paul Whitehead (Genesis, VdGG, etc..) Tony Spada (Steve Morse, Rick Wakeman, Steve Howe, etc..) among others.

It 's a versatile keyboardist and composer who has expressed his feeling through musical genres.

The Alex Carpani Band (ACB) was founded in the fall of 2006 to purpose of performing live in Italy and abroad, the debut album Waterline . Now the band is one of the top of the new Italian progressive scene and has exceptional international experience having performed in Italy, Japan, England, Sweden, USA, Lithuania, Norway, Mexico, Denmark, Germany, France and Serbia from the Spring 2007.

Carpani Alex lives in Bologna, speaks three languages \u200b\u200b(Italian, French and English) and is passionate about cinema, computer music, vintage synthesizers and modern and contemporary art.
Besides being a composer, performs the work of cultural operator, holding the post of manager of the culture in a town near Bologna.
